MOPH reports Cambodian government requesting assistance in handling dengue fever outbreaksThe Ministry of Public Health reports that the Cambodian government has requested aid from the Thai government in handling dengue hemorraghic fever outbreaks. The Director-General of the Department of Disease Control, Dr. Thawat Suntrajarn ( ), revealed that the Cambodian government has issued a letter to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs to request assistance in handling critical dengue hemorraghic fever situations in Cambodia. Continuous rain and abundant mosquito breeding has resulted in record dengue fever infections throughout Cambodia. Cambodia reports 1,914 dengue fever patients in April, 5,205 dengue fever patients in May, and 9,646 dengue fever patients in June. 132 patients have lost their lives. The Director-General of the Department of Disease Control revealed that Cambodia's appeal for assistance is covered under the Greater Mekong Subregion public health treaty. Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont has instructed the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide immediate assistance to Cambodian dengue fever patients.
